What Price Victory? |
|
The Critical Component of Victory |
| 14 September, 2001 Recently, I was asked to look at the recent events through the lens of military history. I have joined the cast of thousands who have written an "open letter to Americans." Please share it if you feel so moved. Tony Kern |

| It is extremely aggravating to already be hearing comments like "Why
are we still there?" and "It's all about money." NO,
IT'S NOT!!
It's about protecting our country, our citizens, and our freedom (yes,
that does include your freedom to make your inane comments as well as my
right to express my opinion here). It's also
about protecting the other citizens of the world. Who knows who
the next target could be! To those individuals, this page should
serve as a reminder. One of the great things about this country is our freedom of speech. As individuals, we all have different opinions and we have the right to express our opinions - but not now. During a time of war, it should not matter what your political views are. You should support our President and support our troops. This was not a stand up fight. The obsessed individuals that masterminded and executed the attack came like a thief in the night and robbed those affected by their actions of their freedoms. Their freedom of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The decision was made to fight back and I'm glad it was. Our soldiers (moms, dads, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, aunts, uncles) volunteered to serve their country. There is no draft - our government did not force them into the military. They may not have wanted to go and leave their families behind - but they went. It was their duty to our country. Some of them will not come home. Freedom is not free!
It is our duty to support them. They do not ask for anything else in return for their sacrifice other than our appreciation and support of their mission and to be welcomed back when they return (I do not want another Vietnam in our history books where the soldiers went off to war and returned home to prejudice, humiliation, and abuse). There are many ways that we can show our support but probably the easiest and most appreciated is just saying Thank you! You can click on the link above to send your thanks and show your support. If you would like to show your support by displaying a printable version of our flag in your home or office, CLICK HERE. |
